Thanks Dad for walking with me in the pouring rain and thanks everyone who donated!!!
My Top Seven Dreams
1) Story of Hope on the NYT bestseller’s list. It hasn’t been given so much as a nod by an agent but I’m really committed to it. I know this book will be published and I think it will change lives. It’s about the mental health movement, friendship, and hope.
2) Win a Pulitzer. I’m still in the early stages of my journalism career. I’ve only mainly done interviews. But I was inspired by the work of Leslie Jamison and I would like to explore the world a bit more with my writing. Particularly if it has to do with- you guessed it- mental health.
3) Win an NBA (National Book Award). A short story of mine (“All Smiles”) was published in an anthology that was actually nominated for a National Book Award. One of my proudest moments.
4) Turn Story of Hope into a movie. And not a crappy lifetime movie either, a legit one. Is Winona Ryder too old to play Hope?
5) Move out. I love living with my parents. But I have a dream for independence. I lived away from home during college. Those who know me know it didn’t go so well.
6) Get married. I’ve always wanted a fairy tale wedding (and marriage), a beautiful white gown, and one heart-stopping dance.
7) Have a baby. This is a dream that will never come true. I have made the decision not to conceive or adopt. I don’t have the genetics or the disposition. I’m not strong enough. I must accept that. I haven’t yet.
Regardless, these are my dreams.
