Feel Good Youtube Channels
Here are ten Youtube channels that comforted me during my teens while I was dealing with school stress, OCD, bipolar disorder, and a wicked batch of acne.
10)
Channel: WatchMojo.com
Subscribers: 25M subscribers
Content: WatchMojo provides top tens on everything from true crime to superhero movies. “We publish 4 or more top tens daily”. I am just going to take an educated guess and say that this channel produces more content than any other on the list. Several spinoff channels have emerged such as Ms. Mojo which carries content like “The 20 Biggest Royal Family Scandals” and “Top 20 Most Shocking Sitcom Moments”
9)
Channel: Cracked
Subscribers: 2.76M
Content: “Youtube’s only comedy channel, since 1958” with 2k videos this channel has hilarious content like “Honest Ads” where Roger details what life would be like “If Podcasts Were Honest” or “If Healthcare Ads Were Honest”. There is “Cracked Goes There” with videos like “Insane Things Amusement Parks Want to Tell You, But Can’t” and “After Hours” with videos including “4 Disney Villains Who Were Right All Along” and “Why All Pixar Movies are Secretly About the Apocalypse”. Conspiracy theories, anyone?
8)
Channel: Screen Junkies
Subscribers: 6.82M
Content: Want honesty? Want no holds back brutally honest? This channel provides that with “honest trailers”. It provides trailers for all kinds of movies and dissects the plot, actors, and their performances. You might not like hearing your favorite movie ripped to shreds but even you will have to smile and admit that yes, they have a point. They currently have 1.2k videos on their channel.
7)
Channel: FineBros/ React
Subscribers: 20M
Content: This is the channel that hosted the infamous “kids react/ teens react/ adults react/ elders react/ Youtubers react/ cats and dogs react” You get my drift. I found out about a lot of trends from this channel, from reacting to them myself. I often wondered what I would be like if I was a child on the show. “Welcome to REACT! From our award-winning REACT series, to shows across scripted, unscripted, animation, interactive, TV series, feature films, and more, we’ve been all about the reactions for over 10 years.” Basically, it covers a lot of ground.
6)
Channel: Jenna Marbles
Subscribers: 19.8M
Content: Jenna Marbles used to be one of the most popular makers on Youtube. In the last few years, she has kind of fallen off with her videos not having the consistency or ingenuity of her original hilarious videos which included things like “How To Make My Boobs Look Bigger” or “Things Girls Lie About” or “What Your Underwear Says About You”. I thought her content kind of declined at the end but at the beginning, she was very original.
5)
Channel: Phillip DeFranco
Subscribers: 6.33M
Content: For years, Phillip DeFranco has been bringing “impartial” (he tries to be impartial. To be fair, he does a good job) news to us. He covers sports, porn (yes porn), politics, crime, and the most random, quirky stories. He is very charismatic (dare I say handsome?) and he always delivers with effusing energy. If I don’t feel like sitting down with my parents and their talk radio, he is my go-to.
4)
Channel: nigahiga
Subscribers: 19.1M
Content: One of the most hilarious Youtubers of all time, Ryan Higa has produced a variety of hilarious videos from “My Honest Graduation Speech” to “How to Keep New Year’s Resolutions” to “Stop Doing Challenges Challenge”. It’s important to note that almost nothing Ryan Higa says should be taken seriously but he WILL leave you with a good feeling in your stomach. He also did a series of videos called “Off the Pill” referring to his ADHD in which he says he doesn’t take his ADHD medication so he can talk on a subject. Sadly, he hasn’t produced Youtube videos in about two years.
3)
Channel: ERB (Epic Rap Battle)
Subscribers: 14.9M
Content: This is a channel where famous people throughout history (and movies and literature) compete in rap battles against each other. This channel has been inactive for a while (not quite sure why) but it has provided us with a lot of entertaining videos of the greatest giants of history and culture going up against each other. It starts with John Lennon vs. Bill O’Reilly and the latest installment was Indiana Jones vs. Lara Croft. My personal favorite? Pennywise the Clown vs. the Joker.
2)
Channel: Good Mythical Morning/ Good Mythical MORE
Subscribers: 202k/ 41.1M
Content: I’ve been watching Good Mythical Morning for four days straight, watching Rhett and Link competing in all sorts of trivia, games, exploring all sorts of trends, mostly food related. I am on a bunch of medication (drink every time Leigh mentions medication) so that makes me very hungry. Watching people eat deep-fried butter grosses me out so that I am not quite as hungry (but I will not say no to a deep-fried Oreo).
1)
Channel: Bad Lip Reading
Subscribers: 8.17M subscribers
Content: This channel provides clips of everything from NFL games to Stars Wars movies to the House of Representatives meetings and provides the dialogue. It is absolutely hilarious to see people in serious situations saying things like “I think I have a Scooby snack running down my leg” and “I want cake! I want cake now!” They even made songs out of Star Wars movies like Bushes of Love, Seagulls and It’s Not a Moon. Classics you can get on Spotify.
Bonus Channel: Key of Awesome
Subscribers: 5.42M subscribers
Content: Speaking of songs, this channel (which ended itself five years ago) took popular hit songs and did parodies of them. Some great ones include “Somebody that I Used to Know”, “What Makes Us Beautiful” and “Royals” (“Can you lend me your ruler? Your pencil and your lunch money?”). In some cases, I thought their lyrics were better than the originals.
Bonus Channel: Cinema Sins/ Music Video Sins/ Brand Sins
Subscribers: 1.1k/ 1.18M/ 498k
Content: These channels take movies, music videos, and popular brands and slowly count the number of transgressions against them. Cinema Sins and Music Video Sins are self-explanatory but my favorite is Brand Sins which tackles things like “Everything Wrong With Twitter” “Everything Wrong with Target” and “Everything Wrong with Instagram”. Unfortunately, the channel has not been active in five years. That is a major sin!
