Every year Christmas manages to surprise me in ways I can’t even imagine. As a teenager I was very susceptible to being moody around the holidays. I kind of grew out of that when I realized how lucky I was. I have so many friends and family that presents are just icing on the cake. Regardless here are some Christmas surprises…(well maybe not surprises) that made the season oh so special.
“Cinema Snob Shoutout” I’ve been listening to the Cinema Snob since I was fourteen. He’s a (cute) guy on the internet who reviews movies and has a cat. Anyway my boyfriend Justin is also a fan and for Christmas his unique gift to me was getting me a video shout out from the Cinema Snob himself. And it was actually a long one as the Cinema Snob talked about his favorite Christmas movies. Pretty cool. I have never had a shout out from a celebrity before.
My little cousin Mary is very talented with drawing and making crafts. This year she made everyone in the family a personalized tableau on an oatmeal container lid. Mine was Pooh and Piglet sitting back to back and reading books. I almost started crying. She knows me so well.
A few years ago I gave my brother my old high school phone, which was an NV3. I kind of forgot about it until my brother gave it back to me on Christmas, all of my old high school photos preserved. I thought they were lost forever.
My mom surprised me by getting a massage at a spa in town as well as a beauty treatment of my choice. I have never had a beauty treatment other than a massage and I am majorly excited (although I have no idea what to chose. A facial? A body scrub? This might be the choice that defines the year).
Seeing most of my cousins. This wasn’t exactly a surprise. It was just really nice. We played charades and taboo and all lounged around on the living room couches then crammed together for a group picture. How blessed I am to have family and friends and a boyfriend and a cat that all love me and care for me. When I’m surrounded by such love, every day is Christmas.
