I just finished reading The Goodbye Summer with my mom and The Library Thief with my book club. Here’s what I’m onto now.
Carrie. This is what my book club chose for our October read. It’s an interesting book because it’s told from multiple points of view even from textbooks on telekinis. For those of you not familiar with the book, Carrie White is a victim of bullying, the daughter of a religious fanatic. She is humiliated by the other girls in her class when she gets her period during gym at age 16 and thinks she’s bleeding to death. I won’t spoil the ending in case you haven’t read it but it’s one of Stephen King’s best works.
Happiness Sold Separately I just started this but so far it’s about Elinor and her husband Ted who are having infertility problems. This causes a marital rift between them and Ted embarks on an affair with his personal trainer which his wife finds out about. The rest I still need to read.
A Single Thread This is the new book I’ve started with Mom. It’s about a woman going through a brutal divorce so she says ‘screw it’ and starts driving from Texas to Connecticut, getting a speeding ticket along the way.
Baby Catcher: Chronicles of a Modern Midwife. I don’t think I could ever give birth or even delivering a baby. Both are courageous acts of womanhood.
Usually I read about five books all at once but between building a mini bookstore, making cards for every single person on the planet having a birthday, and planning my Christmas presents (oh yeah and working on my seventh book) I don’t have much time to read. The days are truly getting shorter.
